Constable killed preventing man-son clash KOHAT: A constable was killed and another suffered injuries while trying to overpower a man who clashed with his father near a checkpost here on Monday.

Officials said the Riaz Mohammad Shaheed police station received a help call from a person that a man armed with a knife was fighting with his father. The call was forwarded to the mills checkpost which sent constable Saadullah Khan and head constable Nasrullah Khan to the area. They found Mohammad Jalil fighting with his father, Khayal Badshah.

While trying to overpower Mohammad Jalil, the two constables were seriously injured.

They were shifted to the women and children hospital where constable Saadullah succumbed to his injuries.

Later, the funeral of the constable was held at the police lines. The victim was laid to rest in his ancestral Jungle Khel village.

The police registered case in the light of the forensic report and account of the injured policeman and eyewitnesses and launched investigations.

TASK FORCE SET UP: Commissioner Kohat Division, Musarrat Hussain, on Monday launched ‘Zama Kohat deputy commissioner volunteer task force as part of the provincial government’s billion trees tsunami project.

A ceremony to this effect was held at the forest department of the Kohat University of Science and Technology here.

The commissioner launched the colourful campaign by cutting a cake. Speaking on the occasion, he said participation of people in the rescue work during 2005 earthquake was presentation of voluntarism and nationhood which were hallmark of the countrymen.

Zahir Shah said there was need to highlight the problems of the rural areas besides urban parts so that people’s problems could be addressed. He also took oath from the volunteers who were part of the tree plantation project. He gave a presentation regarding the goals of the project.

MPA and chairman of district development committee Ziaullah Bangash said that the tree plantation task force would be established in other districts as well, and expressed the hope that the billion trees target would be achieved.

GIRL KILLED: A marriage party turned into mourning after a cousin of the groom was killed during festive firing in Manda Khel area here on Monday.

The police said marriage programme of Shahid was in progress when 11-year-old Sadra Bibi was hit in her head by shots fired by Abid. She was taken to hospital where she died. The accused managed to escape the scene.

The Bilitang police registered case against the accused on the complaint of the cousin of the victim, Adnan, and started search for his arrest.
