DG ISI unable to attend senate meeting

DG ISI unable to attend senate meeting ISLAMABAD: The Director General Inter-Services Intelligence Lt. General Rizwan AKhtar on Monday was unable to attend a Senate Committee meeting owing to prior engagements.

Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani said that the DG ISI will attend subsequent sessions of the senate committee and has informed the Senate why he was unable to attend the meeting today.

The Senate Committee presented a report urging the government to adopt an offensive strategy in response to India’s unprovoked aggression in Kashmir.

The report also urged the government to discuss foreign and internal policies in Parliament and to forge policies in line with the foreign policy interest and national security requirements of the country.

The committee recommended the government to take the political leadership of the country into confidence regarding the current situation with India.

Senate members asserted the the country must abandon its apologetic attitude as far as the situation with India is concerned and formulate a policy to make the international community aware of India’s aggression in the valley.

Tensions between Pakistan and India have been simmering since the Indian crackdown on dissent in India-held Kashmir after the killing of Burhan Wani by Indian occupation forces.

Last week, two Pakistani soldiers were killed in an incident of cross-border firing along the LoC.

In a drive to isolate Pakistan, India also pulled out of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc) summit scheduled to be held in November in Islamabad. Several other Saarc members followed suit, leading to the postponement of the summit.
