Eight ‘terrorists’ killed in ‘encounter’ LAHORE: Eight suspected terrorists were killed in an ‘encounter’ in Dera Ghazi Khan on Thursday.
According to a Counter Terrorism Department spokesman, the CTD personnel were working on a threat alert that terrorists were planning to carry out attacks in Shujaabad town near Multan on the eve of Ashura.
Personnel of the CTD and police and intelligence agencies conducted massive combing operations in Shujaabad.
He said that during these operations, the CTD team learnt that the militants belonging to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan and Al Qaeda had moved to the Tonmi Road area in Dera Ghazi Khan.
The spokesman said that at about 10:40pm on Thursday, when a CTD team raided the suspects’ hideout they opened fire and hurled hand-grenades at the CTD personnel.
“The CTD team retaliated in self-defence. When the firing stopped, eight terrorists were found dead,” he said. However, he added, three of their accomplices managed to escape.
