LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau, Lahore, has arrested two former officials of the Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) on charges of misuse of authority.
According to the NAB, Muhammad Ibrahim Majoka, ex-CEO, and Hashmat Ali Kazmi, former HR & Admin director, have been arrested on allegations of misuse of authority.
“Ibrahim Majoka illegally and unlawfully implemented the instructions received from Tahir Bashrat Cheema, former managing director of Pepco and allowed selection of candidates while clearly violating the laid-down rules and regulations. Hashmat Ali Kazmi, in contradiction of the advertisement and laid-down criteria, paved the way for recruitment of candidates from outside the Gujranwala division,” it said, adding both the accused did so without lawful authority and thus violated the laid-down rules and committed the offence of misuse of authority.
On Thursday, the NAB obtained their 14-day physical remand from an accountability court.
Already in NAB custody, Tahir Basharat Cheema has also been accused of misusing authority. During his stint as Pepco MD, he allegedly disregarded, disobeyed and deviated from the recruitment rules and made some 500 illegal appointments in Gepco.
