Man honoured for killing two ‘robbers’ KARACHI: Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) A.D. Khowaja on Wednesday gave a cash reward of Rs50,000 and an appreciation certificate to a citizen who killed two suspected robbers in Nazimabad recently.
Yasir Jamil was honoured at a ceremony held at the Central Police Office where the DIG West and other officers were also present.
While resisting a robbery attempt, Mr Jamil had opened fire on two suspects in Urdu Bazaar in the limits of the Rizvia police station recently, resulting in injuries to both suspects who later on died.
The police had seized two mobile phones, one pistol and Rs3,000 cash from the custody of the killed suspects. Talking to media on the occasion, Mr Khowaja said cooperation of citizens was needed to curb crime.
He opined that an ordinary citizen by using his licensed pistol ‘at the right time and at the right place’ had killed two suspects, which the police chief termed a ‘good omen’. The IGP said the citizen demonstrated courage by challenging the robbers and defended society.
Referring to recent targeted killings of two soldiers in the busy area of Saddar near the parking plaza, Mr Khowaja opined that if the citizens present there had made efforts and demonstrated courage, the killers of the soldiers could not have fled and might have been arrested on the spot.
