LANDI KOTAL: An inquiry committee of National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) has suspended the entire staff of its Landi Kotal office except a woman employee and started investigations into charges of corruption against them.
A four-member investigation team comprising Nadra assistant directors Naveedullah, Faheem Khan, Aftab Ahmad and Abdul Qayyum visited the local office of the authority after receiving complaints by applicants about delaying tactics in entertaining their requests for getting new Computerised National Identity Cards.
The investigation team was told by a number of applicants in the presence of the staffers of Nadra local office that they were forced to pay bribe for processing their applications. They local officials of Nadra were also accused of issuing CNICs to Afghan nationals but the complainants could not produce any solid proof in that regard.
Several complainants told the visiting team that they had to come from far-off areas to submit their applications but the staff sent them back without entertaining their requests about their new cards by making lame excuses. They alleged that they were issued new cards after paying bribe to the staff through the watchman or sweeper of the office.
