NATO weapons recovered from home in Karachi
KARACHI: A huge number of Nato weapons and arms were discovered by police on Wednesday during a raid of an empty house in the city’s Azizabad area on Wednesday.
Police seized a large number of weapons including anti-aircraft guns, sub-machine guns, light machine guns, rifles and rocket launchers in the raid. Bulletproof jackets and helmets were also recovered from a water tank.
The raid was conducted after the police was tipped off by a political worker already in custody.
All weapons recovered have been taken into custody at the office of Sindh Inspector General (IG) AD Khawaja. The police are still counting the weapons.
During his press conference, the IG claimed that, “The purpose of the weapons was to conduct terrorist activity in Karachi during Muharam,”
When asked who the weapons belong to, the IG responded by saying, “When I’ve said it’s a political party, when I’ve Nine Zero, when I’ve said Azizabad, so after that is there anything left?”
During his press conference, the IG also said that forensic tests will be conducted to determine whether the weapons have been used to conduct terrorist activities in the metropolis before.
He also told that the police are still looking into how long the house has been vacant and who it belongs to.
