No one be arrested without evidence: IG LAHORE: Inspector General of Police Punjab Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera has said no-one should be arrested without evidence, especially in heinous crime cases, because this is against the principles of justice to arrest only on the basis of doubt.
The IGP stated this in a non-formal meeting held at the Central Police Office on Wednesday with officers recently promoted from the rank of inspectors to DSPs, according to a handout.
He directed circle officers to conduct surprise visits to police stations and seek information regarding the duties and performance of officials working there.
He directed officers to take special care of welfare of force as it was not possible to get desired results without giving priority to their welfare.
Mr Sukhera said that 74 officers were promoted on the basis of their performance and seniority. “It is now the responsibility of officers to work with sincerity and deal cases of victimized and helpless persons on a priority basis,” he said.
“I have clearly directed officers to conduct promotion board meetings without any delay and it is expected that promotion board meeting regarding promotion of DSPs to the rank of SPs will be conducted within next one-and-half week,” he said.
The IGP directed officers to complete the pending promotion cases of ACRs and announced that the next promotion board meeting would be held before Dec 25 for timely promotion of such officers.
