Order on field marshal plea reserved ISLAMABAD: Justice Aamer Farooq of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday reserved his order on the maintainability of a petition seeking the status of field marshal for incumbent Chief of the Army Staff General Raheel Sharif.
After a preliminary hearing, Justice Farooq reserved the ruling on the fate of the petition, filed by lawyers Raja Saimul Haq Satti and Sardar Saleem Khan of the Rawalpindi Bar Association.
The petitioners named the prime minister and the secretaries for defence and cabinet division as respondents in the petition.
According to the petition, Gen Sharif — whose three-year term is going to expire on Nov 27 — had launched Operation Zarb-i-Azb against terrorist groups, which is still ongoing.
It claims that Gen Sharif also initiated and formulated the National Action Plan for the safety and security of Pakistan, and is also monitoring the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project.
It requested the court to direct the prime minister and the relevant federal secretaries to elevate Gen Sharif to the rank of field marshal.
