KARACHI: The administrative judge of the antiterrorism courts allowed the police on Wednesday to interrogate interned chief of the banned Lyari Peoples Aman Committee Uzair Jan Baloch in the Arshad Pappu murder case.
The Rangers had detained the alleged Lyari gangster, Uzair Ali, alias Uzair Jan Baloch, under three-month preventive detention for an inquiry following his mysterious arrest in January.
After the end of his detention period, the paramilitary force handed him over to the police last month after lodging a new case for allegedly hiding arms, ammunition and explosives in a Garden locality. Later, he was remanded in prison.
The investigating officer of the Arshad Pappu murder case moved an application before the administrative judge of the ATCs seeking permission to interrogate and formally arrest Uzair from prison in the present case since the same court had sent the alleged gangster to jail in another case.
The administrative judge allowed the IO to grill the detained suspect on the premises of the prison and officially arrest him in the triple murder case.
Shahjahan Baloch, an MNA of the Pakistan Peoples Party from Lyari, along with some police officers and private citizens are facing trial before an ATC for their alleged involvement in the triple murder of Arshad Pappu, the alleged leader of an infamous Lyari gang, his brother Yasir Arafat and their confidant Juma Shera, who were killed in March 2013. The court had declared Uzair Baloch, Noor Mohammed, alias Baba Ladla and others proclaimed offenders in the case in October 2013.
Arshad Pappu was also booked in around 60 cases. However, he was never convicted.
