PPP backing parliament not govt says Gilani DERA GHAZI KHAN: Former Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani says anything can happen in the country in the wake of Panama leaks while the PPP is not backing the PML-N government but the parliament.
He was speaking on the 171th Urs of Hazrat Shah Suleman Taunsvi at Taunsa Sharif on Monday.
Mr Gilani said the PPP was against corruption and it was supporting the state institutions.
“Parliament is being backed by the PPP to save democracy and the parliament is important and the right institution for the legislation on the Panama leaks.”
The former PM said war was not the solution to the issues with India and negotiations should be held to resolve all the issues, including Kashmir to Sir Creek.
On the military operation in different parts of the country, he said: “when we started operation in Swat, Malakand and South Waziristan, the PML-N and other parties had opposed our policy, claiming that they would launch negotiations with extremists but now they are following the PPP policies by conducting operation against extremists”.
Mr Gilani said the mystics and Mashaikh had played a role in spreading Islam with the message of tolerance and they could do the same in current circumstances.
He urged them to come forward to restore the actual image of Islam and Muslims.
He said the matter of extension to the army chief’s term was in the hands of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
He said the PPP government had passed the bill for Seraiki province with majority in the Senate but it required majority in the National Assembly also.
