Sana draws JuD ire for controversial remarks

Controversy over Sana’s remarks

LAHORE: Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah’s statement about Punjab government’s “inaction” against some banned outfits has drawn ire of one of the groups the minister mentioned in his interview to a foreign channel.

“Rana is deliberately creating confusion in order to support a concocted agenda,” a Jamaat-ud-Dawah spokesman said while responding to the minister’s statement that the “State is responsible for inaction against JuD and Jaish-e-Muhammad”.

The spokesman said that the Lahore High Court and Supreme Court of Pakistan have clearly stated that there is no ban on JUD, whatsoever. Rana Sanaullah told the media outside the Punjab Assembly that his statement had been quoted out of context by the channel concerned while it was in the background of the state’s policy on Kashmir, etc. He would not comment further on the issue.

The minister had said in the interview that legal action against proscribed organisations like JuD and JeM is not possible since “state itself has remained a part of this”.

Sana said these organisations are banned but asked, “How can someone proceed with legal action when state is itself involved in the case”.
