LAHORE: The body of an Indian spy, who died in Jinnah Hospital on April 11, was handed over to Indian authorities at Wagah on Tuesday.
Kirpal Singh, 50, had crossed over to Pakistan on Feb 29, 1992, and was arrested on charges of involvement in a bomb explosion and spying.
He was sentenced to death by a court of law. Later, the Lahore High Court (LHC) acquitted him of the bomb explosion charges but didn’t commute the death sentence. Singh was admitted to the hospital on April 11, after he reported severe chest pain. He died there later.
Kahna Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Iqbal Hussain Shah said that a medical board that included a representative of the Indian embassy had carried out a post-mortem examination of the prisoner.
He said Singh’s body was handed over to Indian authorities after completing legal formalities.
