RAWALPINDI: Authorities on Monday deported an American national on her arrival at Benazir Bhutto Airport as she was traveling without a valid Pakistani visa.
An official of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) told Dawn that during verification of Etihad Airways flight EY-231 passengers, the immigration staff found the documents of Krystle Nicole Keehn invalid and stopped her from leaving the airport.
The FIA official said the woman was deported to her port of origin on the same flight.
In a similar development, 10 Pakistanis, who were deported by Turkey, were arrested at Benazir Bhutto International Airport on arrival and sent to the Anti-Human Trafficking Cell.
Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan had recently ordered that any person traveling without valid Pakistani visa or documents will not be allowed to enter Pakistan even if he was a Pakistani.
Following a new policy of the interior ministry, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had been directed not to accept any deportee without verifying that he/she was a Pakistani national.
The FIA has refused entry to several people, including illegal Pakistanis, deported by Greece authorities and sent them back on the special flight that brought them to Pakistan because their documents could not be verified by the interior ministry.
Meanwhile, the FIA immigration staff stopped two passengers from travelling abroad.
One of them was blacklisted while the other was holding fake documents.
Both the passengers were arrested and shifted to the Anti-Human Trafficking Cell for further investigation.
