Wapda, Pepco to ‘upgrade’ pay scales LAHORE: The managements of both Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) and Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pepco) have agreed to upgrade the pay scales of electricity workers and granting fringe benefits to the heirs of employees who lost their lives while performing duty.
The decision will benefit more than 130,000 employees, a meeting of the All Pakistan WAPDA Hydel Electric Workers Union (CBA) was informed by its general secretary Khurshid Ahmad on Monday.
He said the both managements, during a bilateral meeting with the union leaders, agreed to upgrade the pay scales of line staff, clerical, accounts and commercial, drawing and Class-V employees, workers posted at grid stations, meter readers, bill distributors, besides commercial and junior superintendents.
The shift allowance of security staff has also been increased.
It was also agreed that special assistance to the widows of workers who died while on duty would get pay for the remaining service of the deceased, and they would be provided with housing facilities, besides free education to their children.
Mr Ahmad urged the workers to continue striving hard for improving their efficiency for provision of better services to the consumers and ensure observance of safety regulations while performing their duties.
Other representatives of the union also spoke on the occasion and thanked the managements for accepting the just demands of the workers.
